In northern Idaho, hikers and walkers enjoy an extensive trail system near the town filled with colorful wildflowers and waterfront views beside Lake Coeur d'Alene.
A city park that feels like the wilderness, Tubbs Park covers over 135 acres of land set aside for public use. The walking and hiking trails traverse across wildflower studded hillsides and pass by the crystal clear Lake Coeur d’Alene. The snow will soon be melting in northern Idaho and Coeur d’Alene will be sparkling in the glory of warm spring days. This popular resort offers a bounty of outdoor activities, numerous hiking trails, and waterfront walkways that are easily reached from town. Tubbs ParkOriginally belonging to Tony A. Tubbs in 1884, the park has grown over the last century to include waterfront pathways and hillside trails. Because of the close proximity to town, the Tubbs Hill trails are an ideal walking zone for both casual strollers and exercise advocates. Several trail systems wind through the park offering a level path that follows the lakefront and an elevated path that includes some moderate climbs to the upper levels. There are plenty of places along the way to rest and enjoy the vista with benches and a path that leads to a small lakeside beach for picnics and sand play. Along the two mile loop, tall yellow daisies, purple lupine and pink orchids bloom profusely in the late spring months. Many of the trees along the trail bloom with white flowers and the combination of pine and new spring growth is a feast for the senses. Bald eagles can often be seen feeding near the lake, look closely at the bare tree branches for their distinctive white caps. The young cosmopolitan town is a lively place where young adults, families and tourists congregate at the inviting outdoor cafes and pubs. Summer concerts and a large children’s playground make this park an enticing attraction in the city. Coeur d’Alene is one of Idaho’s treasured destinations and a place that needs to be seen on one of the many walking paths through town.
