Rider Ranch in Coeur d'Alene

Horseback Riding in the Northwest

Jul 27, 2009 Kathleen Curry

Ride horses along a beautiful mountain trail of over 1,000 acres on the border the magnificent Coeur d'Alene National Forest at Rider Ranch.

Rider Ranch is a family owned gem just outside the downtown area of Coeur d’Alene. The Rider family, who own and operate this "hands on" ranch, have lived there since 1952 and the children are the third generation of Riders to help run the ranch. The ranch raises horses and cattle and shares the experience with guests.

The horses are raised, trained and bred at the facility. Most are quarter and draft horses that have been trained to be gentle for new riders or work hard for more experienced riders. Rider ranch gives an opportunity to enjoy many aspects of “Life on the Ranch.”

The experience starts with a welcome from one of the Rider family as guests are introduced to the stable with a dozen horses. One of the ranch hands saddles up the horses and introduces rider and horse while also assisting the rider onto the horse.

When everyone returns from the ride, the barn has homemade cookies and lemonade for refreshment before returning to the city.
